In the last few days the forces that want to stop the adding of 14 words, “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California”, to the California Constitution have begun to run ads opposing Prop. 22. One area these ads are
running in, is what people in the media would describe as the second largest media market in the United States of America, the greater Los Angeles area. The Los Angeles area has about fourteen (14) million T.V. viewers. This media market is probably also
the second most expensive in the country following New York City. Yet, they have had enough money to run these expensive ads. Ads, where they claim over and over again that this law is not necessary because, “Same-sex marriage is already banned in
California.”
Have I missed something? But hasn’t Ellen DeGeneres of the former ABC show “Ellen” who proudly “came out of the closet” as a lesbian both in public and on her show “Ellen” in May 1997, with her girlfriend Anne Heche, boasted on nationally broadcast
television shows that as soon as they are legally able to be married in Vermont or some other state they will go there and get married.
Without Prop. 22 the very minute that they return from any state that would allow them as a homosexual couple to be married, then the State of California would have to recognize that marriage as valid, with all the benefits that the designation of
“marriage” brings.
But, even though the NoOnKnight.org organization has revealed in their T.V. ads that Californians do not support homosexual marriage they could very well win in their effort to bring homosexual marriage into the state of California, by Californians not
taking any action because they have bought into their propaganda that marriage is already protected. California is among 19 other states that have not added protection in their state laws for “only marriage between a man and a woman”.
Why can they win? Because they have the millions of dollars to buy the T.V. ads in such places like Los Angeles, with about fourteen (14) million T.V. viewers like myself. They can raise the money not because they have such a huge following, remember
their very own ads admit that the concept of homosexual marriage is not popular in California, but their supporters individually have more money.
We also have the reality that most folks in California do not recognize there is a problem with the existing law and that if it is not reinforced with this additional terminology we will be forced to recognize any marriage that some other state
legalizes. Currently, that is most likely homosexual marriage but it could also be polygamy or marriage to a child.
While the presidential debates continue on we feel the next real huge political debate of this election year will take place in California on Tuesday, March 7, 2000. It could very well be the biggest political debate of this election year. Do not forget
the proverb, “That all things come out of California first” and that Hollywood is in California and that a win for homosexual marriage would mean its assured spread all across the heartland of America. Let’s not get taken by surprise. I call on all
morality and values based Americans to help me in this great struggle by Voting Yes on Proposition 22 on election day Tuesday, March 7, 2000.
